Boat.life — End User License Agreement

1. Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account, signing in, or using boat.life (the “Service”) you agree to be bound by this End User License Agreement (“Agreement”). If you do not agree, do not create an account and do not use the Service. The Service is operated by the boat.life team (“we”, “us”, “our”).
2. Eligibility & account
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. You are responsible for the security of your credentials and for all activity that happens on your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access. Accounts are personal and may not be shared, sold or transferred.
3. Invite-only access
boat.life is currently invite-only. Each new member receives a limited number of invite codes to share. You agree not to sell, auction or otherwise monetise invite codes, and not to abuse the invite system (for example by mass-creating accounts or distributing codes publicly).
4. Your content
You retain all rights to the content you upload (boats, photos, logs, notes, messages, routes, places, etc.). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, transmit and display that content solely as needed to operate, secure and improve the Service for you and the people you share with. You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to everything you upload.
5. How we use your data
Your data belongs to you. We may analyse data you provide — including usage patterns, boat and trip metadata, and aggregated location information — to operate the Service, prevent abuse, improve existing features and develop new ones (including AI-assisted features such as checklists, summaries and recommendations). Where we use AI providers we send only the data necessary for the requested feature, and we do not sell your personal data to third parties.
6. Sharing & visibility
You control who sees your boats, trips, locations and posts. Content you mark as public, post in groups, clubs, harbours or forums, or share via a public link may be viewed by anyone with access to that surface, indexed by search engines, or cached by third parties. Once shared, we cannot guarantee deletion from copies held by others.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to (a) use the Service to break the law, harass, defraud, stalk or endanger anyone; (b) upload malware, illegal or infringing content; (c) attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities outside a coordinated disclosure; (d) impersonate others; (e) interfere with safety-critical use (boat.life is a convenience tool, not a navigation, distress or rescue system).
8. Safety disclaimer
The Service is provided for organisational and social purposes only. It is not a substitute for proper navigation equipment, official charts, weather services, distress beacons, qualified instruction, or applicable maritime regulations. You are solely responsible for the safety of your vessel, crew and passengers.
9. Third-party services & payments
The Service integrates with third parties such as authentication providers, map and tile services, email delivery, AI providers and payment processors. Their terms and privacy policies also apply when you use those features. Paid features, if offered, are billed through the listed payment processor; refunds follow that processor's rules and any specific terms displayed at checkout.
10. Termination
You may close your account at any time from your profile settings. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach this Agreement, abuse the Service, or to comply with the law. On termination we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law, needed to resolve disputes, or already shared with other members in a way we cannot unilaterally reverse.
11. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill or vessel-related damages, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) EUR 50.
12. Changes to this Agreement
We may update this Agreement as the Service evolves. When we make material changes, we will ask you to accept the new version. Continued use of the Service after a non-material change constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the European Union and the country in which we are established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Mandatory consumer protection rights in your country of residence still apply.
